Hasbro announced today through a
press release that it will be hosting its first-ever Hascon convention in September 2017. The family-centered event will take place Sept 8-10, 2017 in Providence RI at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Dunkin Donuts Center. You can expect "a celebration of Hasbro's powerful characters and stories, including live interactive experiences, exclusive products, talent appearances, panels and much more." While the Hascon announcement did not particularly mention M.A.S.K.,
Hasbro's 2016 Company Overview presentation
does indicate future plans for a comeback. Last year in the same presentation,
Hasbro listed M.A.S.K. as a "new brand" which got us very excited and led us to speculate what exactly is their plan. Well in this year's presentation on slide #4, M.A.S.K. is listed under the heading "New Brands/Franchise Brands in the Making" along with Micronauts, Hana Zuki, Stretch Armstrong, and G.I. Joe.
I guess no matter how you label it, M.A.S.K. is definitely a brand that Hasbro is working on to develop something new. Whether this is based on the new
IDW comic books or the upcoming
cinematic universe project is yet to be revealed. What I would speculate is that the three brands mentioned in this section will be the first developed in the CU project with ROM and Visionaries coming later.
I think this is good news for M.A.S.K. fans who are waiting for a new toyline. Keep Hascon circled on your calendar as I could definitely see some announcements or maybe even convention exclusives next year at the show. As I've said before, Hasbro is a toy company first. It's awesome to see M.A.S.K. show up in comics and potentially films or
animation again, but I believe the ultimate goal for Hasbro is to get M.A.S.K. back in the toy aisles.
What do you think about the Hascon announcement and listing M.A.S.K. in their company overview presentation? Will you try to attend the convention next year?
